What is OBI?

 Obi is a medical device intended to compensate for the function of a human arm during meals to restore self-feeding performance. Our device allows those with upper extremity mobility impairments 

to eat what they want and when! 

Obi increases independence, social interaction, meal enjoyment, and well being.

OBI 3 — Bringing Independence Back to Mealtime

 Robotic self-feeding technology designed to help people with limited upper-extremity mobility eat more independently—choosing what to eat and when to eat it.

OBI 3 gives users control over food selection and delivery, helping restore independence, dignity and participation at mealtime.

 

Mealtime Shouldn't Mean Losing Your Independence

Something as routine as eating can become dependent on a caregiver when neurological injury or disease affects arm and hand movement.

OBI 3 is designed to compensate for impaired upper-extremity function during meals, allowing the user to control which food they select and when it's delivered.

 

OBI isn't simply an automatic spoon. The user controls the meal.

The device uses customizable accessibility switches to let the user select among four food compartments and command food delivery. Switches can be activated by different parts of the body, and the system can also work with sip-and-puff interfaces.

Independent Eating in Two Simple Commands

 1. CHOOSE
The user selects which section of the plate they want.

2. EAT
The user tells OBI when to deliver the bite.

Then:

You choose the food. You choose the pace. OBI provides the movement.
